Mid South is made of an incredible network of people. Professionals in the therapy industry are assisted by Directors of Rehabilitation, Regional Clinical Directors, and an Employee Support Center Staff. As with any company, people truly make it grow, innovate, and sustain.

 

Meet the people of Mid South.

Steven Cole

CEO + Founder

As President and CEO of Mid South, Steven oversees the strategic management and direction of the company. He founded Mid South and has served as CEO since 1996. Steven values faith, family, and work, which is why the culture of Mid South largely reflects these themes. Throughout the years, Steven has established clinical benchmarks to ensure clinical pathways are established to improve patient outcomes. Steven serves as a Managing Partner of Trilogy Revenue Cycle. He is also involved with numerous nationally-recognized healthcare associations.

 

Steven and his team at the Employee Support Center also work with national healthcare lobbyists to help shape the legislation that affects the rehab industry. In his free time, Steven enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and exercising. He is a firm believer that “you reap what you sow.”

Mark Buckley

VP Clinical Operations

Mark graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. He has been a licensed Physical Therapist for over 15 years and is currently licensed as a Physical Therapist in MS. In his role as Vice President of Clinical Operations, Mark works alongside our Regional Clinical Directors, assisting them in the daily operation of our company.

 

Mark also currently serves as the Regional Coordinator for the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers and Agencies for the Southeastern United States. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for the William Carey University Physical Therapy Program, the Casamba Advisory Board,  and the APTA. Mark enjoys spending time with his children and learning more about his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thomas Fuller

VP of Finance

Thomas received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, and he previously worked as an Assistant CFO for a large, publicly traded hospital organization.

 

He joined the Mid South team in October of 2018. Thomas oversees all financial operations and analysis for the company. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, cycling, watching Mississippi State sports, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Karen Cole

Director of HR

Karen received her undergraduate degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in Business Administration. She joined the Mid South team in 2018 after developing her career in Human Resources & Business Management. She spent 22 years in local broadcast television as Human Resources Manager & Business Manager. Karen also worked as the Human Resources Manager for a locally-owned oil & gas/commercial real estate development company. Karen oversees all Human Resources relations for all Mid South employees. Karen enjoys spending time with family & friends, shopping, & spoiling her dogs, Goldie & Scout.

Clinton Mayes, CHSP, CHPC,MBA

Director of IT, Privacy and Security Officer

Clinton received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Millsaps College as well as his Masters degree in Business Marketing & Finance. He spent 12 years at the Department of Labor, & he joined the Mid South team in September of 2015. Clinton works to ensure network security & HIPAA compliance. In addition, he also oversees technology for our Employee Support Center. Clinton is CHSP & CHPC certified. When Clinton is not fixing our problems & glitches, he enjoys taekwondo. He has a 2nd degree black belt.

Charlean Williams

OTR/L, CHC, RAC-CT

Director of HIM & Compliance

Charlean attended Alcorn State University & UMMC for occupational therapy school. She joined Mid South in September of 2004, & since then she has transitioned into her leadership role in compliance. Charlean works closely with the operations team for compliance with regulations to ensure the best service to our strategic partner facilities. She is committed to keeping Mid South up to date with the ever-changing federal & state laws regarding our industry. Charlean is CHC and RAC-CT certified. When she is not busy with rules & regulations, Charlean enjoys traveling & shopping.

Jennifer Mitchell

Controller

With an accounting degree from Mississippi College, Jennifer is a CPA with 20 years of experience including public accounting, telecommunications and healthcare. She was most recently employed 13 years as Controller for the managing company of a large local healthcare clinic system and gained a financial healthcare certification (CHFP) in 2018. In May of 2019 she joined the Mid South team as Controller. Jennifer oversees daily cash management, accounting operations, preparation of company financial statements and provides support for the VP of Finance. She is a native of Brandon, and her hobbies include cycling and cooking.

Amy Nichols

Executive Administrative Assistant

After working as a legal assistant for ten years, Amy joined the Mid South Rehab team in October of 2013. She assists Steven Cole, CEO and Founder of Mid South, with all aspects of the business. When she has free time, she enjoys kayaking, going to the beach, and watching movies.

Sam-ath McDaniel

PTA; Regional Clinical Director of South MS

Sam-ath received her Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Pearl River Community College. She has over 11 years of clinical experience with Mid South in skilled nursing, outpatient, memory care, acute hospital, and assisted living facilities.

Her wealth of experience made her an obvious choice for a Regional Clinical Director for South Mississippi. In her free time, Sam-ath enjoys reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kim Rayburn

CCC-SLP; Regional Clinical Director of Central MS

Kim Rayburn received her undergraduate degree in Psychology with minors in Biology and Spanish from The University of Mississippi. She received her Masters of Science in Communicative Disorders from Ole Miss as well. Kim has worked as an SLP at a hearing and language impaired school, an outpatient clinic, a hospital rehabilitation center,  skilled nursing facilities and non-skilled nursing facilities. She has served in a management position since 1994.  Kim started work with Mid South in a transitional role as an RCD in 2004, and she has been a member of this organization for 15 years as of August 2019.  In her free time, Kim enjoys decorating houses, spending time with family and friends, painting, and volunteering. 

Karen Leflore

OTR/L; Regional Clinical Director of South MS

Karen Leflore, OTR/L joined Mid South Rehab Services in 2012. She serves as Regional Clinical Director for the South MS region. She has approximately 12 years of experience in a variety of clinical settings as an Occupational Therapist.

 

Prior to serving as Regional Clinical Director, she worked as both Occupational Therapist and Director of Rehabilitation with Mid South.

Paul Evans, DPT

 Regional Clinical Director of Tennessee Region

Paul Evans, DPT, graduated with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UT Chattanooga in 2004. Since then, he has served in a variety of health care settings including outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing. Paul's practice focus over the years has primarily fallen into stroke rehab, spinal chord injury, and geriatrics. Paul's leadership skills continued to make him stand out over the years as he served as DOR at a skilled nursing facility, managed an outpatient clinic, and then eventually took on his role with Mid South as a Director of Rehab. Over the last 4 years with Mid South, Paul has showed significant strengths in his role as a therapist, producing clinical outcomes and optimal results. However, his leadership skills and passion for conquering new challenges and bettering his colleagues and patients is what truly makes him the perfect fit as RCD of Tennessee. Paul has been married to Claire Evans for 14 years, and they have two precious daughters, Olivia (11) and Branton (7). 

JR Burnett, DPT

Regional Clinical Director of North Mississippi

John Robert Burnett, DPT, grew up in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He attended Millsaps College, playing football as a tight end and defensive end, and receiving his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduation, JR attended UMMC to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. When he graduated from the program in 2013, JR immediately took a job with Mid South Rehab Services, Inc. as a physical therapist for our strategic partner, Magee General Hospital. After about a year, JR was promoted to Director of Rehab at 360 Total Rehab in Flowood, MS. In his time at 360, JR obtained certification in myofascial trigger point dry needling. Six years later, JR was promoted again, this time as a Regional Clinical Director for Mid South’s North Mississippi Region. 

 

JR enjoys spending time with his wife of 7 years, Kelsey, and their three children - Swayze (5), Isaac (4), and Rowan (3). In his free time, JR enjoys playing sports, exercising, hunting, and fishing. Above all, he is a follower of Jesus, and he credits Him with all the glory.
