Faith and Work

This week we continue our journey into ways we can bring our faith into the workplace. I had initially planned for this to be the final week of the discussion of the foundation of faith. I quickly realized, however, that faith really needs to be discussed with each of the eight pillars. Consequently, you will hear a lot more about how our faith impacts each of the pillars.

I am really excited about this week’s Faith in the Workplace podcast. I had the chance to interview a 19-year-old college student who has faith like I have never seen. She has just returned from missions in Africa and has a plan to share her faith with her college campus. We can learn from Kelly’s plan of reaching one for Christ. Kelly is self-aware enough to recognize that it is tough for one person to reach everyone. She has narrowed her focus and works on building relationships with a few. She nourishes those few relationships and then encourages those few to build relationships with a few others and eventually the gospel is shared with many. It is a simple, but effective plan. I can’t wait for you to hear her heart.

I’m not sure we should be learning these lessons from a teenager, but I am afraid that too often we get away from our childlike innocence and faith. Matthew 18:2-5 says, “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”

I fear that we have lost so much of our childlike faith. As a child, we learned to play well with others. We dreamed. We learned to share even if only things like toys and snacks. Throughout the years we allow things like circumstances and personalities to stop us from working so well with others. We have become more and more isolated, in our own world, and share with others far too little.

I hope you will listen to my interview with Kelly this week and allow a teenager to speak into your heart and remind you of what the hands and feet of Christ can look like at Mid South and beyond.

Have a blessed week!!
